Sewathon to benefit Southern Maine Chapter of "Dress a Girl Around the World"

On Saturday, March 11th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Webster at Rye Assisted Living located at 795 Washington Road in Rye, N.H. will host the Southern Maine chapter of Dress a Girl Around The World. All sewers and their machines, whether novice or experienced, are invited to attend. Fabric and instructions are provided, along with lots of support and encouragement.

Dress A Girl Around the World is a campaign under the umbrella of Hope4Women, a not for profit organization that has brought dignity to women and girls around the world since 2006. Dress A Girl believes that every girl deserves the dignity and hope of owning at least one dress- for many, it may be the only new dress that a girl will own in her lifetime. Since 2009, girls in more than 82 countries including the U.S. have received over 450,000 dresses.

All of the dresses are sewn by volunteers who meet in community centers, church halls, living rooms, and now senior health communities. The fabric, trims and thread used for the dresses are all donated materials. By making a new dress, you may change a young girl’s destiny.
